All the Write Words

Here are some frequently asked questions about the business writing and design services offered by All the Write Words.  If you have a question that is not covered here, please feel free to email me.

What is the best way to contact you about a writing project?

You may contact me either by email at shelly@allthewritewords.net or by phone at 208-215-5559.  I find that email works best as it helps to detail your project better so I can make sure I provide you with everything your project needs to be successful or meet your expectations.

I’m a new, start-up business and I don’t need a lot of materials.  Can I hire you for just one project?

Whether you need only one project or ten (or more), I can help you with your business writing needs.  Even if you hire me for only one project, I promise to give your project the time and attention it deserves – the same time and attention I would give if you hired me for multiple projects!

I’m just a small business and my budget isn’t like those of larger companies, so why would I need a copywriter?  Couldn’t I just write my own copy?

Well, you could go ahead and write your own copy.  But, is that the best way to spend your valuable time?  Are there more productive things you could be doing for your business – things maybe only you can do – that give you a better end result for your time and efforts and make you more money in the long run?  Are you secure in your writing and design ability, and that the time you spend producing your own materials will give you the outcome your business needs?  As a smaller business competing with larger companies, you need more exposure using professional, quality materials to get your message across and make more money.  How can you do that best?

Why should I hire a freelance writer when I could go to a full-sized ad agency?  Wouldn’t they give me more bang for my buck?  Tell me the benefit of using a freelancer like you.

Yes, you could go to a full-sized ad agency.  You might even get more bang for your buck.  But you might not.  Ad agencies are great if you have the means to pay for it.  Some companies shouldn’t even consider anything else.  Some might want to join the forces of a freelancer and an agency to better utilize their funds.  But one thing about ad agencies is, many of them require larger “minimum” orders from their clients or they require annual spending budgets.  They also have a lot more overhead and more “mouths to feed” – which will cost the client!  So, if you have a greater need for written material on a regular basis, and you have the financial resources to pay for it, maybe an agency is best for your business.  If you would rather have more flexibility with your marketing and materials budget (and you want to keep more of your money within your own business), you may want to look into hiring a professional freelancer.

I need a lot of written materials for my business.  Wouldn’t it be better for me to hire a staff person to produce this stuff?

Maybe.  It all depends on if you have enough work to hire a full time employee and if you want to pay all the necessary expenses that go along with it: an hourly rate, unemployment benefits, taxes, health insurance, vacation and sick time…  If you have a need for a lot of written materials, you could estimate the cost of having an employee and then estimate the cost of hiring a freelance writer only when you need them and compare the two.  Now, which one fits your needs?  You would have to take the time to find a qualified and experienced candidate — and quality and experience costs money!

Do you have minimums – the size of a project, a dollar amount, or in time?

Editing, proofreading, consulting, and research are done on an hourly rate with all having a 1 (one) hour minimum.  Other than that, I do not have a minimum requirement on the size of a project, a dollar amount, or whether I am hired for only one or multiple projects.

Do you work on retainer?

I prefer to work on a project basis.  However, if you need a copywriter on a retainer basis, arrangements might be able to be made in advance.  Just ask!

What is your experience?

Please see the about page  and portfolio page for more information on my qualifications and experience.

How do I know you will be able to write about my industry or business?

A freelance business writer makes their living with words.  We use – on a regular basis – language as a selling tool, utilizing the rules of writing and marketing to get your message out.  These principals are the same no matter what the business is.  Once I have the pertinent facts about your business, I can create the materials that showcase your services or products in the best way possible.

I need several different types of projects written.  Can you do them all for me?

Whether you need a brochure, sales letter, ad, proposal, or other type of material, I can provide you with what you need.  Go back to the home page or visit the project prices page to see all the various types of projects I can write and design for your business.

I need a project completed and delivered to me by tomorrow – can you do it?

It will depend on the size and complexity of the project you need completed, as well as my schedule.  In many cases, I might be able to accommodate you.  However, keep in mind that projects with less than a 72-hour turnaround time will be considered a rush project and therefore will be charged an additional fee.

My customers are other businesses.  Can you still do materials for me?

Whatever you might need, in most cases, I can provide for you.  It doesn’t matter if you market your business to the general public or to other businesses.  I can even provide in-house communications for your business.

What if I don’t like what you’ve written or designed?

I offer up to 2 (two) revisions free of charge within 7 (seven) days after you receive the copy or design; these revisions do not include changes to the scope or content of the project, or were changes made to the project after the copy was submitted for assignment.
