FAQs Page 2
I’m making payment upfront on half the project fee. How do I know you will deliver and not just take my money? How do I know the copy will be usable for me and my business? A contract, company purchase order, or letter of authorization is required for all assignments before the start of the project. In many cases, I will provide a letter including all the project details, the date of completion, and the project fee. This letter will be signed by myself and the client. This helps ensure a safe transaction for both parties.
How much is my project going to cost? How do I know I won’t get hit with outrageous fees at the end of the project or you won’t over bill me on hours? To help give clients the confidence that there will be no hidden surprises, I work mainly on a project-fee basis. You can get an idea of typical costs by project on the project price page. Although, since each project is different, I will provide a written bid to you by the next business day. The project fee takes the issue of an hourly rate out of the equation and allows you to know up front what your project is going to cost. Of course, there might be instances where an hourly rate is used (see policies page or the additional services on the project price page). When this is the case, you will receive a detailed log of time spent on your project.
I already have a bunch of materials written. If you use the stuff I have to create new materials, will you charge less? Shouldn’t it be cheaper because you won’t have to do as much writing? It will depend. Many times rewriting or fitting existing materials within the scope of a new assignment takes as much time as it does to write from scratch. If you are in this situation, please discuss it with me and we can work something out. I’m flexible and easy to work with!
I just need some materials rewritten. Can you do that, too? Yes, I offer editing and rewriting services.
Who will own the work once it is completed? Will I get the copyright and be able to use it whenever and however I want? All the Write Words will own the copyright only until all fees for the project are paid in full. After the fees are paid, the copyright will be the client’s property to use how they wish. The copyright refers to the written portion of project and any graphic arts created for the client. It does not refer to the exact layout of the project.
Will you supply the graphics if you are designing a project for me or do I have to supply them? It is best if you can supply any and all graphics for the project because this will save on the cost of the project. Designing and/or finding graphics to use will add extra costs on to the project fee.
I already have pictures and clip art that I want to use for my project. Can I supply these graphics to you and will it cost less? Yes, this is the preferred method. It will cost less in the respect that you won’t be charged an hourly rate to design or find graphics for the project.
Does the layout or designing of a project (say a brochure) come with the writing as part of the project? Typically, a client needs to request layout services if they need that to be a part of the project. Layout/designing will either be built in to the total project fee or will be charged on an hourly basis.
Do you print my materials, too? No, all printing costs are the client’s responsibility. I only offer the writing and design portion of the project.
I’m in Chicago (Seattle, etc.) but I see you’re in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Can I still hire you and how will it work? Don’t you just love technology? Distance doesn’t matter to me if it doesn’t matter to you. All aspects of the project can be handled online, by fax, and by phone.
What if I need to meet with you on my project? Beyond the initial meeting on the assignment of the project, meetings are typically extra based on an hourly rate. For larger projects, extra meetings (up to 3) can be negotiated into the project fee. This will be determined upon assignment.
Do you provide updates as you work on my project? Typically on shorter projects I do not offer updates. I simply do the project and deliver it to you. On longer or more in-depth projects that take more time I do provide weekly updates on the assignment’s progress.
I need the final copy and/or design in an electronic format. How are my materials provided to me? In almost all instances, the completed project will be provided to you either by an email attachment or on a CD (both will be in a pdf format). This will allow you to access the material on any computer.
How do I know if your electronic format will work on my computer? Won’t I need the same program on my computer that you created the work on? Please see the previous question.
Can you guarantee that the copy you write for me will increase my sales, get me customers, etc.? Do you offer a money back guarantee? I don’t know if any writer could make such a guarantee because so many factors are involved beyond the written materials. And, I believe it would be dishonest to make that guarantee. But I do offer 2 (two) revisions during the 7 (seven) days after you receive the written copy. I guarantee that I will do my very best to write and design top-quality materials for your business.
I really liked the work you did for me – can I submit a testimonial? Testimonials are always welcome – and even encouraged! If you are a client and would like to submit a testimonial regarding my services, please feel free to email or mail it to me along with your permission for me to use it. All testimonials will become the property of All the Write Words and you must be willing to have the testimonial used in AtWW promotional materials and on the AtWW website.
